Like most consumer ANC headphones, the Sony WH-1000XM5 boosts bass probably a little too much, and definitely to the detriment of the midrange. The predecessors to the Sony WH-1000XM5 were king of the hill, and this new headphone takes that crown. Having this ability can be a godsend and it works seamlessly enough, once you have enabled the feature in the Headphones app. The Sonys closest current rivals are the Bose 700 (350, $399) and Sennheiser Momentum 3 Wireless (350, $400) although both of these pairs have been out for a few years now and you can find them cheaper if you shop around.
